1 WOMAN MARRIED 7 BROTHERS. WHO’S WIFE WILL SHE BE IN HEAVEN?
This is a hypothetical story and question that was asked of Jesus by the Sadducees in Matthew 22:23-30. But it makes us wonder, “Will there be marriage in heaven?”
Not so, Jesus responded.
He said we will be like the angels who neither marry nor have a need to create children. “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”
Does that mean there is no sex in heaven?
There is not, here is why…Sexual union between a husband and his wife is something that God created here on earth for our temporary enjoyment and the multiplication of the human race. But it will no longer be necessary in heaven, which is already full of angels and resurrected people.
As enjoyable as you may find sexual intimacy here on earth, there is something far more enjoyable than sex: being in the glorious presence of God where there is eternal love, peace, joy and happiness! Believe me, we will not miss the dimension of sexuality when we will have something 1000 or maybe 1,000,000 times better.
But what about our dead husbands or wives? Will we still be married in heaven?
Jesus said, no. We may still recognize our former husbands or wives and enjoy their company among the other resurrected saints, but the previous marital bonds will no longer exist.
What will heaven be like?
Like the popular song says, “We can only imagine.” Heaven will be so incredibly good that it is impossible to describe. Think of the most wonderful time or happiness you have ever experienced and multiply that by 1000 times. That’s what heaven will be like. Maybe even more.
How do we know that?
Because God says so, and God does not lie. He has promised, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.” – 1 Corinthians 2:9
In Christ’s kingdom, there awaits us blessing and reward of such magnitude that no human words could ever describe nor our limited thoughts could ever conceive. If you believe it, say amen.
