What does the cross of Jesus Christ mean to you?
To some people, the cross is a symbol of their religion. To others, it is a decorative ornament you wear around your neck. But to us who believe and have a daily relationship with God, it should remind us of how much Jesus Christ loved us; that he suffered and died on the cross to pay for our sins. He who did not sin, died for those who did, so that we would could be forgiven.
The Romans used the cross as a brutal method of executing crimininals. Although Jesus was no criminal, He allowed Himself to be crucified to pay for my sins and for yours. We are all sinners in need of salvation.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard of perfection.” – Romans 3:23
When God first created mankind he was perfect. Adam and Eve lived in a perfect world without sin, without pain, without sickness, and without injustice. But afterwards, sin entered into the world and we became sinners. Every generation born after Adam and Eve were born with the inclination to sin, and the world became contaminated with sin. That’s why we have so many problems today.
But God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us from our sinful ways. In order to become perfect again we have to be “born again” and die to our sinful ways – by believing in the message of the cross. We can be justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin on the cross. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus sacrificed his life and shed his blood for us (Romans 3:24-26).
Will you believe it? Will you accept God’s free gift of salvation through faith? Pray right now, and ask Jesus Christ to become your Savior and teach you how to live a perfect life according to God’s standards. It’s not easy to be perfect; it takes lots of practice. But with God’s help and power, it is an attainable goal.
