Knowing that God will

Faith is not hoping that God can, it’s knowing that God will.

The Dichotomy of Peter

Goodbye Old Self_jpg

The apostle Peter is an example of how we, as born again Christians, often experience the dichotomy of living according to both the old carnal self and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. One minute we can be acting like the most godly people, but the next minute, we can be the most carnal and contemptible persons.

When Jesus asked His disciples what they thought of Him, one said this or that, but only Peter gave the right answer. He said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to Him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 16:14-17

One moment Peter was so full of God that he rightly declared that Jesus was the Messiah. Jesus was so impressed with his answer that He blessed Him among His other disciples. Yet, on another occassion, Peter was so full of the Devil that Christ had to rebuke him and say, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me.” – Matthew 16:23

Why does this happen to us too?

Because inside each of us are two natures: The old nature, and the new nature, which are opposed to each other. How we think and act depends on which nature we yield ourselves to. The apostle Paul admonished us to:

“…let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other…” – Galatians 5:16-17

Notice that he says, these two forces are constantly at war within us, trying to control our thoughts and behavior. That is why we struggle as Christians. Part of us wants to do good, but another part of us wants to do evil.

Who are you allowing to control your life? The old nature? Or, the new nature? Today, Make a conscious decision to permit the Holy Spirit, and not the sinful flesh, to be in control of your life. As you do, you will eventually live in harmony with God’s will and progressively be transformed into the image of Christ.

God Became A Man

Nativity

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” — John 1:14

During this time of year most of the Christian world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. The truth is, no one knows the exact day and month Jesus was actually born since the Bible never documents this detail. The important thing to focus on is this: that God came down from heaven and took on the form of man, in order to die on the cross for our sins.

The apostle John called Jesus the “Word.”

He was the logos, the embodiment of God’s message to us – a lost and sinful humanity. His message was clear: Unless you repent and turn back to God you will be lost for eternity. “There is only one way back to God the Father”, Jesus said, “and only one truth and one way to forgiveness from sin and eternal life, and following Me is the only way” (John 14:6).

Jesus, Immanuel (God with us), lived among us, taught us by word and deed how God expects us to live. He was full of grace and truth and we beheld His glory. Finally, He was crucified on the cross to purchase the redemption for all of us who would believe upon Him.

Let us never lose focus of the real reason we celebrate this season of the year. It’s all about Jesus Christ, and the greatest gift that God has given us: His only begotten Son, the holy lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill among men. We praise You, we bless You, we worship You, we glorify You, we give You thanks for your great glory, Lord Jesus our Savior and King!

God Is Not Sadistic

Eternal Torment_jpg“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” — John 3:17

Many Christian religious sects mistakenly portray almighty God as a cruel, sadistic deity in the sky who takes pleasure in the suffering and death of the wicked.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

Jesus confirmed this when He said in John 3:17 that our Heavenly Father loves us and sent His Son to save humanity, not to condemn it. Because God is love, His actions are motivated by love. He is merciful and kind and does not take pleasure in watching people suffer or supposedly burn in hell throughout eternity. This false doctrine of eternal torment was invented by sadistic men and religious impostors who corrupted the true message of Christ.

The difference between eternal destruction and eternal torment.

Eternal torment for the wicked is NOT biblical. However, eternal destruction IS. After the final judgement, men who refused the love and salvation of God and persisted in evil works and deeds will be destroyed in the Lake of Fire, along with Satan and his demons. But that will be the end of them, since God is also just and must judge the unrighteous. For evil doers, there will be no future existence nor reincarnation nor any kind of consciousness. Only the righteous will live forever with Jesus in the New Heavens and the New Earth.

Let us pray that God will deliver us today from every form of sin that entangles our actions and pollutes our hearts so that we may be counted worthy of His mercy, forgiveness and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Let us redeem the precious time here in this short life and invest it well for the kingdom of God. When Christ returns, eternal peace and happiness will be our reward. Furthermore, no eye has ever seen or ear has ever heard what God has planned for those that love Him and are odedient to His will (1 Cor. 2:9).

Holiday Depression

Holiday Depression

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8

At this time of year, many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is a type of holiday depression. They get depressed at the idea of celebrating the holidays without a loved one they have lost, or not having enough money to buy gifts, or simply out of loneliness. They drift through the holiday season in a daze.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE, TODAY'S BIBLE VERSE

Christ Our Victory

Victory In Jesus_jpg

“Put on the complete armor of God, for you to be able to stand against the schemes of the devil…” – Ephesians 6:11

The Bible tells us that Christians are involved in a spiritual war. The combat is not against human enemies, but against invisible, yet real demonic entities who have a thousand ways of attacking us and trying to keep us from fulfilling our godly purposes in this life. Sometimes they may attack us through other people they control, or through sickness, or discouraging circumstances, but most mostly they attack us in our minds and thoughts.

Did Jesus Ever Cry?

jesus-wept_jpg“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our feelings and weaknesses, for He faced all of the same emotions and testings we do, yet He did not sin.” – Hebrews 4:15

Many times we wrongly assume that God does not understand the emotional ups and downs that we go through in life; that He is emotionally indifferent or detached and cannot sympathize with our feelings of frustration, sadness, self pity, pain, hurt, rejection, anger, resentment, etc. On the contrary, God loves us so much that He hurts when we hurt, and rejoices when we are happy. Think about it: if He created our spirits and bodies, He also created our emotions. Since we are created in His image, He too must have the same range of emotions. Psalms 103:13 gives us an indication of how God feels: “The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.”

Jesus experienced feelings and emotions – just as we do, but because He is God, as well as man, He did not allow His emotions to influence Him to sin. For instance, when He got angry He did not allow His anger to overwhelm Him¹, as we have a tendency to do. The Bible tells us, “Be angry, and do not sin; let not the sun set upon your wrath.” (Ephesians 4:26)

God knows your feelings and Frustrations

Jesus understands when we get emotional. But He also wants us to keep our emotions under control. That’s where the indwelling guidance of the Holy Spirit comes in. The Holy Spirit will teach us how to experience emotions without sinning. Temperance, or self-control, is one of the fruits of the Spirit which should be developed in every Christian’s life.

Is it wrong to cry?

Not at all. Jesus did. He shed tears on at least three recorded occasions. In John 11:35 it states, “Jesus wept.” He was tenderhearted and cared deeply for people. He demonstrated that its okay for men to cry too, even when it’s culturally considered unmanly. That’s because, in real life, real men experience feelings and emotions too, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

General Norman Schwarzkopf, was once asked in a television interview if he was concerned about the high number of deaths in the war during Desert Storm. When He began to cry, Barbara Walters inquired, “General, aren’t you afraid to cry?” The general replied, “Barbara, I’m afraid of a man who CAN’T cry!”

Whether you are a man or woman of God reading this today, do not be afraid to show your emotions – especially tender emotions – towards your wife, your children or others. It’s not a sin to be emotional, nor a sign of personal weakness. It just means you’re human, and God understands your feelings. He created us to be loving, compassionate and tender hearted, rejoicing with those who rejoice and mourning with those who mourn²,

New Creature, New Life!

A New Creation in Christ_jpg

Todays Bible Verse_jpgToday’s Bible Verse: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old person, and the old life have passed away; behold, a new life has begun.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

To become genuine followers of God, we need to reach a place of personal surrender and transformation, which Jesus called, “being spiritually born again.” Metaphorically speaking, it requires dying to the old person we used to be, and being re-born into a new life in Christ. Only God can do this, for without His power we cannot change.

When I was saved over 30 years ago, I was living quite a different life than what I live today in Jesus Christ. Before I could be saved, I had to repent of the many sins I had committed. When I did, God was merciful. I asked Jesus to become the Savior and Lord of my life. I knew I had to give up my old wicked ways of living, and begin to live a new life in Christ. For me, it turned out to be a complete 180 degree change, but I’m so glad I did it! I don’t know where I would be without the grace of God.

When we become Christians, we are making a covenant with God to follow His commandments and live holy and righteous lives. More often than not, His moral and ethical standards are quite different than the standards of this world. Yet, that’s the price we have to pay to become His beloved sons and daughters.

As obedient children, let us endeavor to please God in everything that we do – how we think, talk and behave. It’s not always easy, but He has given us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to guide us and empower us. As we study the Bible daily, pray, and yield to the voice of God, we will progressively change for the better. And, ultimately grow into the very image and perfection of Jesus Christ.

Therefore, let us strive today – and everyday, to live as new creations in Christ. To be perfect, as our heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48).

The Lord is My Helper

The Lord Is My Helper

Today’s Bible Verse: “So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” – Hebrews 13:6

If you’ve put your trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, you can also be confident that He is your helper in every situation. In times of perplexity or threatening want, God will never leave you nor forsake you. Even death itself cannot separate you from the love of God, so why be afraid?

In life, He has promised to supply all your needs according to HIs riches in glory – in spiritual matters as well as physical matters. We can trust Him in every area of our lives. He is not a man; He is God! When we put our trust in men we will be disappointed, for men are fickle. They will often make promises they cannot keep. Not so with God. Our heavenly Father always keeps His promises, for He cannot lie. George Mueller once wrote, “Faith is the assurance that what God has said in His Word is true, and that God will act accordingly. This confidence is faith.”

No matter what kind of trial you’re going through today, pray with confidence and commit everything to Jesus. Trust in His infinite power, wisdom, and goodness. Let your faith rise above all fears and doubts. You can be assured that Jesus is your protector, your provider, your sustainer, your healer, and your best friend.

The Resurrection

The Second Coming of ChristToday’s Bible Verse:  “We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:14

Christians have the glorious hope of resurrection from the dead and eternal life. Why do we believe this? Because God says so in His word – the Holy Bible.

We believe the promises of God, that once our physical bodies die, our spirit, which is immortal, goes to be with Jesus in heaven. When Jesus returns to the earth to establish His eternal kingdom, we will also return with Him. We will live forever with God in a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells. There will be no more sin or sickness or suffering or pain.

Just as our heavenly Father gave Jesus Christ victory over sin and death, He will also give us the same. We can have confidence that if we belong to Him, whether we are living or dead when He comes, we will also share in His resurrection.
