A mother’s unchanging love

A reflection of Gods love

As we reflect on the love of our mothers on this annual Mother’s Day celebration, let us remember that God Himself created our mothers and fathers too. He is our Creator and we are all His beloved children.

That special bond that exists between mother and son, or mother and daughter, did not happen by accident. God deliberately placed His unchanging love in our mothers to be a reflection of His own love for us. The Psalmist reminds us of this fact when he wrote these words:

“But you, O LORD, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” – Psalm 86:15

Was your mother merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness? Mine was, and I hope yours was too. That’s because God placed those character qualities in them. He also wanted us to learn by their example and become the same kind of parent with our own children.

Abiding in God’s love

Finally, Jesus tells us in John 15:9-12 how to abide in God’s love – by being obedient and faithful children, that our joy may be full. “As God the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
